Press release
Today, the Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine (SEGM) announced the launch of a new Continuing Medical Education (CME) series designed to equip clinicians with the latest evidence, perspectives, and best practices in the care of gender-dysphoric youth.

This education, showcased on SEGM's newly-launched CME website, marks an important milestone in the field of pediatric gender medicine, providing physicians with a trusted, accredited source for navigating one of the most complex and rapidly evolving areas of clinical practice.

Recent international reviews have prompted major shifts in consensus on safe and effective care for gender-dysphoric youth. This CME series, led by prominent clinical experts and researchers, offers comprehensive guidance on the benefits, risks, and ethical considerations of medical interventions for gender-dysphoric youth. It is designed to support informed, patient-centered decision-making that prioritizes both safety and informed consent.

Courses are available free of charge and are accredited for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. The courses are planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Washington State University (WSU) Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine and SEGM. While the courses are accredited by WSU, the content and educational materials presented belong to the authors and do not represent Washington State University. For broader accessibility, the video lectures are also available on SEGM’s website for clinicians and members of the public who wish to engage with the material without pursuing CME credit.

"This educational series fills a critical gap for clinicians who are striving to provide the highest quality care in a rapidly changing field", said Dr. Julia Mason, a board-certified pediatrician and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, issued the following statement. "Physicians deserve access to evidence-based resources that help them guide patients through complex decisions with confidence and compassion. We’re thrilled to see such an academically rigorous program available to support sound medical judgment and patient safety."

"As the evidence in gender medicine continues to evolve, it is essential that clinicians remain grounded in science and ethics," added Dr. William Malone, a board-certified endocrinologist. This CME program offers a much-needed forum for understanding the full scope of international research and clinical experience. We’re excited to give physicians and other healthcare professionals a trusted place to learn, reflect, and refine their approach to caring for a uniquely vulnerable population."
